Joe DeVito, Last night at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase

Headliner

Last night at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase, Joe DeVito (with Andy Beningo and Sal Demilio) made me laugh so hard I was in pain! He is DEFINITELY a comedian worth checking out!! You may have seen him on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Chelsea Lately, or Last Comic Standing, as well as a number of other TV appearances.

My date and I got to meet/hang out with him after the show. He's a really nice guy, who definitely takes his humor with him when he leaves the stage.

Other Acts of the Evening

Andy Beningo was hysterical as last night's MC. He has been named "Best Comedian" by the Detroit Metro Times and last night I could see why! His jokes were witty and happy with a touch of self-deprecating. A very enjoyable act! You may have heard him on air on the Bob & Tom Show or on Sirius XM Radio. He was the warm-up act for Betty White at the Gilda Laugh Festival, and has performed at the Great American Comedy Festival and the Detroit Comedy Festival. He has appeared on the Comedy Time Network as well as Comcast Cable.

Sal Demilio is definitely a new favorite of mine, so I was super excited (when I friended him on facebook) to find out he actually lives in Ann Arbor! Hopefully that means he'll be performing at the Ann Arbor Comedy Showcase again sometime soon! He can soon be seen playing the role of wise guy Italian landfill company owner in the movie "Intent," starring Eric Roberts as Detective Gordon. "Intent" has been described as a combination of Silence of the Lambs and CSI. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing it when it comes out in Spring 2012.
You can also buy Sal's CD, "Fettuccini Salfredo" for $15 online in the "Acting and Voiceovers" section of his website. (I'm thinking it would make a great Christmas gift! *wink wink*)

I'M BAAAAAACK!!!!!!!

so, I don't know if anyone actually reads this blog since I haven't posted in months and months and months and didn't really post all that much to begin with, but I have decided to come back! YAY!! *throws a party*

I've been inspired by a recent trip (last night) to a comedy club. I have to be honest. It was my first time at a comedy club. I've watched a TON of stand-up on youtube, but I had never really seen any live, up close, and in person. Last night was incredible! My date and I ended up getting front row seats because someone had cancelled their reservations. The comedian even picked on us a little! The headliner was Joe DeVito, with opening act Sal Demilio and MC Andy Beningo. All three of them were absolutely hysterical. My next post is going to be about Joe, even though he's not a female comedian. I think he deserves a post.

Gas From The Past: Lily Tomlin

I have always loved Lily Tomlin. I first knew her as Mz. Frizzle on The Magic School Bus, but as I got older came to know her as a great actress. I highly recommend seeing her (and Steve Martin) in the movie All Of Me... it is truly hysterical! Anyway, she's amazing and one of the greatest comics in my opinion.

Funny & Foreign: Sarah Millican

Sarah Millican reminds me a little of my friend Shelly and a little of my cousin Leah... depends on the video. Anyway, I think she's hilarious and an excellent comic to watch, especially if you've just broken up with your boyfriend. Also, I think she'd be really fun to hang out with. I'm a really big fan!

Funny & Foreign: Hannah Gadsby

This is a link to a clip of Hannah Gadsby. She instantly became one of my favorites the moment I started watching her. In 2006 she won the Raw Comedy competition for new comedians and fame ensued.

Funny Girls

Well, a little about myself... but not too much. I've recently taken up an immense interest in stand-up comedy. I've been working some jokes out myself, but haven't actually performed for an audience or anything. I am considering recording some of my stuff and possibly posting on youtube, so that could be pretty cool.

Anyway, the purpose of this blog is not (necessarily) to promote myself as a stand-up comedian, but to get the word out about some of my favorite female comedians. Originally it was just going to be my favorite comedians in general (who include Demetri Martin, Mitch Hedberg, Jim Gaffigan, Margaret Cho, Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman...), but then I heard somewhere that women aren't funny. I heard that women are not good at stand-up comedy. And I said "nuh-uh!" So here we are. I'm promoting my favorite female comedians. I find them through google, iTunes, word-of-mouth, etc. and I youtube them. I'll be posting my thoughts on some female stand-up comics as well as links to videos of their work. I may stay away from some of the more mainstream comedians, however, if I feel they already have enough of a cult following.
